LiftMaster 41A4373A garage door opener safety sensor photo eye kit is used on Chamberlain, LiftMaster and Sears Craftsman garage door opener models made from 1993 - 1998. This is a genuine LiftMaster replacement part. The 41A4373A safety sensor kit includes both safety sensors, gel caps (for splicing), 18" of wire attached to each sensor and instructions. Replaces part number 41A4373.

How to Troubleshoot or Test your LiftMaster/Sears Craftsman and Chamberlain Safety Sensors

The safety sensors (often called "photo eyes" or "reversing sensors") must be connected and properly aligned before the garage door opener will move in the downward direction. Problems with the safety sensor wiring usually occurs due to a poor connection, incorrectly connected wires or a short in the wire that was caused by a staple cutting into the wire.

Helpful Hint: If you are unable to get the door closed and the safety sensors are the issue, the garage door can be closed by over-riding the sensors. To do this, simply press and hold down the door control push bar on the wall station until the door has traveled down and is completely closed.

Testing the Safety Sensor Wires

Remove the sensors from the brackets.
Remove the wires from the wire nuts or cut the sensor wires 12" from the sensors.
Strip both ends of wires from each sensor and twist like colored wires together. Proceed with both sensors to the operator.
Remove the existing wires from the white and grey terminals on the back of the operator.
Attach or insert white wires into the white terminal and black/white striped wires into the grey terminal.
Point the sensors at each other - if both sensor LED's turn on, there is an issue with your wiring. Replace the wires between the opener and the sensors. If the LED’s DO NOT turn on, replace the sensors.

Aligning the Safety Sensors

The LEDs on both the sending and receiving sensors will glow steadily when both the wiring connections and alignment are correct. The sending sensor (has the green LED that stays solid) will glow regardless of alignment or obstruction. If the receiving sensor (has the green LED light goes out when you pass your hand in front of the sensor) is off, dim, or flickers (and if you have determined that the invisible light beam path is not obstructed), alignment is required.

Remove the receiving sensor from bracket. To do so, simply remove the wing nut.
Next, point the receiving sensor away from the sending sensor so that the LED light is completely off.
Once the LED light is off, wait 10 seconds.
Slowly rotate sensor back, aligning sensor with sending sensor, until it lights up green again. When you have a strong, solid green light, simply reinstall the sensor back on to the bracket and reattach and tighten the wing nut.
